How to use The Compost Bin.

Welcome to The Compost Bin, which contains my musings on my life. I live in Herefordshire with my husband and 11 year old daughter. We have 4 acres of land which contains a woodland, small orchard, garden and veg plot. We grow our own organic fruit and veg and make lots of cider, wine, jam and chutney. We share our lives with 16 Chickens, 3 Cats, 4 Guinea Pig and assorted wildlife!

I am a freelance Forest School Leader and Environmental Educator so work with both adults and children on all sorts of things. I also volunteer as a Master Composter and Master Gardener, helping people make compost and grow veg.

So, I might talk about; what we have been doing on our patch of land and in our wood, my work, the chickens and their funny ways, how to grow veg, the fun things our cats get up to, self sufficiency and what it actually means, more general environmental issues, composting, making various crafty stuff, happy and sad times here, living a slower, more hand made, frugal lifestyle, making and mending and re-using and re-cycling stuff, living more lightly on the Earth and my views on life in general.

I hope you enjoy your time spent inside The Compost Bin. I would also love to welcome you as a member of The Compostbin forum

Packing up and making friends.

I am packing books out of the main sitting/hearthroom and having a clear out as I go ready for the major works to start in there.

I am amazed at just how many books on an eclectic mix of subjects we actually have between us. Shocked I am  doing a full count so I know exactly how many books we do have at Compost Mansions. I have not done this for several years!

Peter Rabbit is now back home having had "the op" and is recovering well. In 10 days or so he can have a doe as a friend so it will be worth it!

Guinea pigs now getting on very well, so the two new boys can stay with us and not have to go back to the small animal charity. Their names are Snowy and Chalky.
This is Snowy sniffing Fudge.

I have a meeting later to go to later on today in Hereford but for now am continuing to clear out the polytunnel, doing washing and packing away books on a rotating basis.

And what are you all doing today?

i absolutely adore guinea pigs. I used to raise them and show them too at local rabbit shows. I now have an elderly piggy sow living here and cannot imagine life without a piggy friend or two. I love your set up! They are lucky little pigs!

If you look at the next post you will see the double decker hutch they all live in, when they are not in their run!

I have just fed them and said night night and had a wheekie chat with them all.
