I am off to a pre school messy play and environmental themed games session this morning which should be really good fun!
Later on this afternoon
Play session went well, it was for a pre school and toddler group near to me. So we played a run around game, sang a couple of action songs about birds, the children ( and adults!) made dens built with fabric (and imagination) we did some bark rubbing and a lot of painting on BIG sheets of paper( wow some of the smalls were really getting into imagining the "woodland" I had said the room had become...)
and then I told them the story of The Gruffalo (one of my all time favourite stories!) doing different voices AND with some soft toy re-enactment...you should have seen the little faces when I produced from behind my back a large Gruffalo soft toy, at the appropriate bit of the story....They all wanted to cuddle it as well..
I don't blame them as he is a rather lovely soft toy!
I love my work :-)
BUT I am now tired and looking forward to a rest, I have had no dizzy spells since Wednesday so I am hoping it has gone now, whatever it was. My foot is fine now as well, so this weekend I shall do no business work but instead plant seeds :-))
Musings on living a different, more self sufficient life. Now with added forum to join! The Compostbin forum - full of ideas for living a more self reliant life.
How to use The Compost Bin.
Welcome to The Compost Bin, which contains my musings on my life. I live in Herefordshire with my husband and 11 year old daughter. We have 4 acres of land which contains a woodland, small orchard, garden and veg plot. We grow our own organic fruit and veg and make lots of cider, wine, jam and chutney. We share our lives with 16 Chickens, 3 Cats, 4 Guinea Pig and assorted wildlife!
I am a freelance Forest School Leader and Environmental Educator so work with both adults and children on all sorts of things. I also volunteer as a Master Composter and Master Gardener, helping people make compost and grow veg.
So, I might talk about; what we have been doing on our patch of land and in our wood, my work, the chickens and their funny ways, how to grow veg, the fun things our cats get up to, self sufficiency and what it actually means, more general environmental issues, composting, making various crafty stuff, happy and sad times here, living a slower, more hand made, frugal lifestyle, making and mending and re-using and re-cycling stuff, living more lightly on the Earth and my views on life in general.
I hope you enjoy your time spent inside The Compost Bin. I would also love to welcome you as a member of The Compostbin forum

Have you seen the Gruffalo#s child?its another lovely book.
Glad you had a great day, small smalls are so wonderful I bet they enjyed your time so much. I grinned in the play ground yesterday when a big small at the smalls school(tongue twister lol!) came up & said it was her birthday day next week, ooo what would you like to do I asked,oh she replied I have friends round & we are going to build the best den ever!
YAY!! for precious childhoods. They shold put den building on the national curiculum rather than se ed for 4 year olds grrr pah!
GTM x x x
I have a gruffalo, he is sitting beside me as I type :-) I have to keep him away from CG though, or he would disapear into her collection and that would Never Do, I need him!
GTM part of the attraction of being a Forest School Leader is that I get to go into schools and then take the children out regularly to "play in the woods", den building etc..much better to learn Numeracy Literacy and PSHE, by counting sticks, telling tales and working together to build a den.....
Hi, Hope the dizzy spells improve. My Spouse had them and it turned out to be vertigo! Anyway, the reason for this post is I am about to start keeping chickens, did a search for Gingernut Rangers which brought me to your site... and like me, you are in Herefordshire - and I wondered where you got them from? Many thanks, Frankie
Hello Frankie :-)
I got them from Poultry Park at Oxenhall. The original Ginger was from Omlet, Ginger too and Notmeg were from PP.
If you do come over to get some, come and see me! I am only a couple of miles away.....
Brilliant - thanks for that!
